Acne mechanica is acne triggered or worsened by heat, pressure, occlusion and repeated friction on the skin, typically where sports equipment or clothing presses and rubs against sweaty skin.
It can occur in anyone, with or without ordinary acne, although pre-existing acne makes it more likely. The task is to recognise the pattern, separate it from look-alikes that are treated differently, and reduce the mechanical trigger.
